Hello world, I sure hope someone is reading this. Where have all our convictions gone. There was a time not so long ago when a movement for equality reared its head in the punk rock scene. I myself was very happy to see people open up to sexism in our society and realize that even things as simple as language can play a big part in the degradation of a human being. Although there was a lot of big talk in those days I haven't seen many folks walk the walk. What I mean is that so many punk rock boys seem to talk a lot of shit about being the 90s man and being sensitive to the issues that women face day to day. Talk is cheep kids and words are nothing more than words. So many times do I see women totally excluded from conversation, not intentionally I suppose, but in that subtle way that makes me sick time and time again. Just look around you when a group of people are talking. You'll notice that men seem to lead the conversation and women are snubbed or not even given the chance to speak at all. This is expected in the day to day world but in the punk rock scene we are supposed to be above that. When not to long ago it was common to she women voicing their opinions strong and loud and the men actually listening to what they have to say. I don't see much of that any more. Even in my group of friends I see this underlying sexism that frustrates the shit out of me. Not to say that I'm perfect but I think that I make a concise effort to be aware of everyone around me and treat all folks the same. Whether it be just including some one in a conversation or telling some one that they suck regardless of gender. Come on folks lets not move backward lets strive to get out of the stone age. Women are just as intelligent, talented, and worthy of your attention as any man, most times more so. If we are supposed to be a movement that tries to break oppressions then why can't we look around and see our mothers and sisters who have been oppressed longer than any group in history. The only way for us to truly be free is to recognize what we can do personally to break the cycle. Talking high and mighty about women's rights then degrading them behind closed doors with the boys is not the answer.
If you talk the talk you better walk the walk. Look inside your self for the root of these problems what you find there may scare you.
